SCRIPTURE

Isaiah 6:1–8
This passage is the primary foundation of the song. Isaiah sees the Lord “high and lifted up,” with His robe filling the temple. Seraphim cry out “Holy, holy, holy,” the thresholds shake, and smoke fills the temple. Isaiah confesses his unclean lips; a seraph touches his mouth with a coal and declares his guilt taken away. Then God asks, “Whom shall I send?” and Isaiah responds, “Here am I. Send me.” This frames nearly every image and line in the song.

Revelation 4:2–11
John’s vision of the throne room aligns with Isaiah’s. God is seated on His throne surrounded by heavenly creatures proclaiming His holiness. The song’s repeated images of heavenly awe, fire, and worship echo this vision.

Exodus 3:2–6
Moses encounters the burning bush—God’s holy fire that doesn’t consume. The line “stepping barefoot into a throne room of fire” reflects this sacred encounter.

“Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” The themes of trembling, awe, and fire reflect this verse powerfully.

Psalm 24:7–10
“Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty…” Emphasizes the majesty and glory of the King on His throne.

2 Corinthians 3:18
“And we all… beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed…” The transformation described in the song—from guilt to praise—is rooted in this truth.

Romans 12:1
“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice…” The phrase “my offering is shattered heart and ash and flame” speaks to a life fully surrendered.

Acts 2:3–4
Tongues of fire rest on the disciples, filling them with the Spirit. The idea of a “burning choir” and a tongue touched by fire parallels this Pentecost moment.

Matthew 23:1–36 – Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for their hypocrisy
This chapter is the backbone of the song. Jesus condemns leaders who “tie up heavy burdens” (v. 4), “love to be honored” (v. 6), and “clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence” (v. 25). Directly supports lyrics like “You clean your cup but leave it dry” and “You preach straight from the Caiaphas Translation.”

John 8:1–11 – The woman caught in adultery
